06 Nov Idhammar Systems at Maintec 2019 – CMMS, OEE, WCM and the evolution of maintenance management systems
It is certainly a busy month for the team at Idhammar Systems. We are off to Smart Factory Expo next week and recently attended the Maintec 2019 conference showcasing our advanced products and discussing how we can help organisations improve site operations. Here our very own Andrew Smith, Senior Implementation Specialist, took to the stage on the second day to talk about Idhammar MMS, OEE and WCM and their evolution in a digital world. For those of you who couldn’t attend the seminar on the day, we wanted to share some of the key points discussed.
First there was pen and paper…
A lot has changed since the 1950s, when the idea of maintenance systems came to fruition. Originally, pen and paper were used to record work in the manufacturing industry and many engineers worked with paper job cards, utilising a manual process to keep operations running. With the development of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Windows-based systems, operations became easier but were still quite labour intensive with individual user permissions. More had to be done in order to develop a system that could simplify maintenance management, reduce loss and improve profitability.
Fast forward to the present day and paper is a distance memory. Technology and the rise of Industry 4.0 is changing the way we operate in the manufacturing industry with the evolution of AI-powered machines and their co-existence in our everyday life. This has transformed our interactions with the user and new systems including OEE, a useful tool to monitor equipment effectiveness, is helping us make better business-driven decisions. Through these systems, reporting has also now become available through real time dashboards with alerts sent directly to the users when they need it.
Then came CMSS and OEE
Although CMMS and OEE are not new concepts, since they were established, they have certainly evolved significantly in line with digital developments and industry-specific needs. Most businesses today want to be proactive rather than deal with risks and issues as they occur. Idhammar Systems has a crucial role to play in this as our products help organisations find a system that allows them focus on the maintenance of the system and minimise downtime.
Even though we’ll certainly see systems develop and evolve even further in the future, one of the key benefits that we have witnessed so far is how CMMS and OEE systems can be integrated, communicating with each other in order to provide those on site with all of the key information available. With this type of integration, the benefits are endless including better traceability of your team’s actions and in-depth analysis of the production process focusing on issues and allowing businesses to increase productivity.
So, what can these systems do for your business?
Certainly, investing in the right technology that will allow you to boost profitability and improve operations in your business is crucial to always be at the forefront of the industry. Having the right system in place in your organisation, can take away the pain for manufacturers, providing:
- Real time data/ performance stats
- Dashboard reporting for increased visibility and visualisation of the data
- Key information instantly accessible
- Mobile maintenance – mobile reporting to help decision makers take action
- Cloud-based applications, keeping everything in one place
- Reduced waste, particularly important at a time where environmental factors are at the forefront
According to your needs and targets, Idhammar Systems can help you choose the right system for your business allowing you to reduce your environmental impact and enabling you to make data-driven decisions when it comes to maintenance management. In a world where technology is evolving at such a fast pace and competition levels are always rising, it’s critical that you look for innovative ways to optimise productivity and maximise ROI.
